Urgent Action (good news) : Israel allows Abu Mteer, a palestinian patient, out of gaza

UA: 183/09, Index: MDE 15/023/2009, Issue Date: 10 July 2009

Israël : the Israeli authorities have agreed to grant Palestinian man Ahmed Abu Mteer permission to leave Gaza in order to travel to a Palestinian hospital in East Jerusalem, where he can receive life-saving treatment.
Ahmed Abu Mteer suffers from Hodgkin's lymphoma, a cancer affecting white blood cells, which is curable if treated in time. The treatment available in Gaza has not been sufficient to control his disease. In May 2009, he was referred for life-saving treatment to Augusta Victoria Hospital in East Jerusalem. However, the Israeli authorities denied him permission to leave Gaza to attend an appointment there in June. Their decision was based on "security reasons" which were not specified. The authorities have now confirmed that he will be permitted to travel on 10 July.
Thanks to all those who took action on behalf of Ahmed Abu Mteer. No further appeals are required.

This is the first update of UA: 183/09 (MDE 15/022/2009).
