A male soldier from Guinea, who had been detained incommunicado without charge in the capital Conakry for almost five months, was released in early January 2010. He still has scars from being beaten when he was arrested.
Lieutenant Mamadou Korka Damba was arrested at his home by security forces on the evening of 22 August 2009. He was released in early January after almost five months of detention. He had reportedly been accused of plotting a coup to overthrow Guinea's military rulers.
He did not receive any treatment for his injuries, and he was not provided with a medical examination after his release.
No further action is requested from the UA network. Many thanks to all who sent appeals.
