Sri Lankan brothers Balapuwaduge Sumith Suresh Kumara Mendis and Balapuwaduge Indika Prasath Mendis, asylum seekers deported from Australia in October 2009, are at risk of torture and of attack from other inmates at Negombo prison, on Sri Lanka's west coast. Cal Brown, a 52-year-old man, is scheduled to be executed in Washington State, USA, on 10 September after over 16 years on death row. In recent weeks, police have detained at least 21 garment factory employees and labour rights activists following violent street protests in and around the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka.
