Honduran journalist Gilda Silvestrucci has received death threats by phone. In recent weeks she has been campaigning for justice for Honduran journalists who have been threatened, attacked or killed as a consequence of their work, often exposing human rights violations. Syrian reporter ‘Adel Walid Kharsa was released on 9 January 2011 after over two months in incommunicado detention following his arrest in the city of Hama, central Syria, on 31 October 2011. The two journalists from newspaper The Destiny, arrested in early November, have been released without charge.
Ngor Garang, The Destiny's editor-in-chief, had been arrested on 1 November when he went to a meeting with the Director General of South Sudan's National Security Services (NSS). A journalist working for the The Destiny, Dengdit Ayok, was arrested by NSS personnel four days later, at the newspaper's offices. [ Lire la suite » ]

On 14 October 2011, a court in the northern city of Khujand in the Soghd region, Tajikistan, found journalist, Makhmadyusuf Ismoilov, guilty of the charges brought against him of libel, insult and inciting hatred. He will be appealing against the verdict. [ Lire la suite » ]

On 14 October, a court in northern city of Khujand in the Soghd region, Tajikistan, found BBC journalist, Urunboy Usmonov, guilty of charges brought against him, which implicate him in criminal activities related to banned religious groups.
Tajik journalist Urunboy Usmonov was sentenced to three years' imprisonment on 14 October but released immediately under an amnesty. He will be appealing against the verdict. [ Lire la suite » ]

Pakistani journalist Rehmatullah Darpakhel, who was abducted on 11 August 2011, was released on 12 October and is now recovering with his family.

Two Mexicans who had been detained and charged with terrorism and sabotage after being accused of posting messages on Twitter and Facebook have been released without charge.
Local journalist, María de Jesús Bravo Pagola (known as Maruchi) and teacher Gilberto Martínez Vera were released on 21 September without charge after the state governor ordered the prosecution to be ceased. [ Lire la suite » ]

Urgent action: Viet Nam. Health fears for detained Vietnamese blogger Nguyen Hoang Hai, also known as Dieu Cay

The lawyer and family of popular Vietnamese blogger Nguyen Hoang Hai, also known as Dieu Cay, have not been allowed to visit him in prison for six months. There are concerns for his health, as they have also been prevented from sending him food and medicine. Despite completing a 30-month prison sentence in October 2010, he was detained for further investigation on charges of “conducting propaganda” against the state. [ Lire la suite » ]
