Football journalist Abdollah Sadoughi was arrested in the city of Tabriz, north-west Iran, on 18 January, after publishing a poster supporting the city’s Traktor Sazi football team. He is held without charge at Tabriz prison, and is on hunger strike in protest at what he considers to be his baseless detention. Lawyer Ernesto Rábago Martínez was shot and killed in his office in Chihuahua City, northern Mexico. He and his female partner, Estela Ángeles Mondragón, had previously been threatened and attacked because of their legal work for an Indigenous community involved in a land dispute. Margarita Martínez, the wife of community activist Adolfo Guzmán Ordaz, was abducted, beaten and threatened on 25 February. She and Adolfo Guzmán had previously received death threats after filing a complaint against police. [ Lire la suite » ]

Tibetan filmmaker Dhondup Wangchen was sentenced to six years' imprisonment on 28 December for "subversion of state power," after a secret, unfair trial by Xining City Intermediate Court, in western China’s Qinghai province.
