Behzad Nabavi and Kian Tajbakhsh remain at liberty after they were released temporarily on bail.
Behzad Nabavi, a former parliamentarian, who had been released for 20 days for medical treatment on 16 March 2010, has not yet been returned to prison. He is serving a five-year prison sentence after being convicted of “acting against national security”. [ Lire la suite » ]


 

Urgent action (good news): Syrian political activist Ahmed Mustafa Ben-Mohammed, released on bail

Syrian political activist Ahmed Mustafa Ben-Mohammed, usually known by his pen name of Pir Rostom, was released on bail on 27 April.

Pir Rostom continues to await possible referral for trial on charges such as inciting sectarian and racial strife. It is believed that these relate to articles written by him that were published online. Amnesty International believes that Pir Rostom is no longer at imminent risk of torture or other ill-treatment. Urgent action (good news): Politician Deogratias Mushayidi charged, was not ill-treated

Urgent action (good news): Kuwaiti journalist Muhammad ‘Abd al-Qader al-Jasem freed

Amnesty International has learnt that Kuwaiti journalist Muhammad ‘Abd al-Qader al-Jasem was released on bail on 4 December 2009, 12 days after being detained. He had been held at the Interior Ministry’s Criminal Investigation Department in the Kuwaiti capital, Kuwait City, after criticizing the Kuwaiti Prime Minister, Sheikh Nasser Al Sabah, during a private meeting in October 2009. Urgent action: Tunisian man, Lotfi Dassi, at risk of torture

Former political prisoner Lotfi Dassi was arrested by security forces in Tunisia on 23 November, apparently in relation to his activities to secure financial aid for families affected by floods in the town of Redeyef.
