Sri Lankan brothers Balapuwaduge Sumith Suresh Kumara Mendis and Balapuwaduge Indika Prasath Mendis, asylum seekers deported from Australia in October 2009, are at risk of torture and of attack from other inmates at Negombo prison, on Sri Lanka's west coast. Turkish prisoner of conscience İnan S. has been moved to a prison in the western coastal city of İzmir, where he is now held pending trial on charges of "infringement of leave". Every few weeks, they say, he is taken from Damascus Central prison in ‘Adra, northern Damascus, to a branch of State Security, where officers are trying to force him to “confess” to something which he maintains is not true.
