Urgent action (follow up): Police fail to arrest Nepalese army officer Major Niranjan Basnet

Army Major Niranjan Basnet has not been arrested on his return to Nepal. Despite instructions from the Prime Minister that he be arrested, military police escorted him to the army's headquarters in the capital, Kathmandu. The army is believed to be waiting for a decision from its Chief of Staff on whether to surrender Major Basnet to a civilian court. This decision is expected around 19 December. Urgent action: Army officer, Major Niranjan Basnet, sought over girl's murder

Major Niranjan Basnet of the Nepal Army was charged by a civilian court in 2008 with the murder of a 15-year-old girl. He was recently found to be serving in a UN peacekeeping mission in Africa; the UN have now expelled him from the mission, and have instructed the government of Nepal to repatriate him. Urgent Action (good news) : Israel allows Abu Mteer, a palestinian patient, out of gaza
