Cuban authorities have refused blogger Yoani Sánchez permission to travel to Brazil to attend a documentary screening on freedom of expression. Urgent action (bonne nouvelle): Cuba. Prisoners of conscience freed

No further action is required. Many thanks to all who sent appeals.

Cuban human right activists Ivonne Malleza Galano and Ignacio Martínez Montejo were released from detention on 20 January, along with Isabel Haydee Álvarez, who was detained after calling on officials to release the two activists. Urgent action:Pro-democracy activists arbitrarily detained

Five men, all members of a pro-democracy organization in Cuba have been detained in connection with their political beliefs and activities. Update - 22/06/2007

According to reports, Pablo Pacheco Avila was transferred to Ciego de Avila Hospital at the end of May to have surgery in his knee. Upto now he has been recovering well from surgery. This is a positive achievement and one of the initial objectives has been met (he is to receive necessary medical attention).

Another positive development is the release of 3 POCs in Cuba since the beginning of the year.
