Football journalist Abdollah Sadoughi was arrested in the city of Tabriz, north-west Iran, on 18 January, after publishing a poster supporting the city’s Traktor Sazi football team. He is held without charge at Tabriz prison, and is on hunger strike in protest at what he considers to be his baseless detention. Urgent action (good news): Eco-activist Mahfarid Mansourian released

He and his female partner, Estela Ángeles Mondragón, had previously been threatened and attacked because of their legal work for an Indigenous community involved in a land dispute. Urgent action: Journalist Hengameh Shahidi imprisoned after appeal rejected

Hengameh Shahidi, a female journalist, was rearrested on 25 February to begin serving a six-year prison sentence. An appeal court upheld her conviction for charges related to her political and journalistic activities. Urgent action (good news): Retired Iranian scholar Dr Mohammad Maleki released on bail

Dr Mohammad Maleki was released on bail on 1 March 2010. He had spent 191 days detained in Evin Prison, Tehran apparently for his criticism of the conduct of the disputed presidential election in 2009. It is possible that he may still be charged and tried.
He has diabetes, heart problems and prostate cancer, and cannot walk unaided. His family had publicly expressed concern on 20 February that they had not been given permission to visit him for 20 days and that they feared his life was in danger. [ Lire la suite » ]
